The modular plug that connects a sensor to the M2 mote may sometimes require a replacement. This article includes instructions on installing a modular plug. There are two types of modular plugs that can be distinguished by the number of pins in the plug.
Fig. A: 5-pin; Fig. B: 6-pin
Modular Plug 6-pin
- Insert plug component over sensor cable. Figure 1
- Insert the red sense wire into the open block ‘1’ then tighten with a phillips head screwdriver. Figure 2
- Insert the green sense wire into the open block ‘N’ then tighten with a phillips head screwdriver. Figure 3
- Slide the inner cover over the wires and screw tight to the end of the plug. Figure 4
- Slide the inner gasket into the back of the plug. Figure 5
- Tighten the rear plastic nut until it seats firmly over the cable. Figure 6
Modular Plug 5-pin
Installation of a 5-pin plug works similarly to the original 6-pin design:
- Insert plug component over sensor cable. Figure 1 above
- Insert the red sense wire into the open block between ‘1 & 5’ (Fig. C) then tighten with a phillips head screwdriver.
- Insert the green sense wire into the open block between ‘3 & 4’ (Fig. C) then tighten with a phillips head screwdriver. Figure 3 above
- Slide the inner cover over the wires and screw tight to the end of the plug. Figure 4 above
- Slide the inner gasket into the back of the plug. Figure 5 above
- Tighten the rear plastic nut until it seats firmly over the cable. Figure 6 above
Another way to view the plug assembly is by viewing the sides of the plug:
- Red = L or ‘live’
- Green = Ground
Note: There is a jumper wire that is used between ‘1 & 2’ for the battery. This cable should not be tampered with.
