Unbox the Device and Check Contents
- (1) Dragino CPL03-LB sensor unit
- (1) Antenna
- (1) Waterproof junction box
Choose Mounting Location
- Select a suitable outdoor location within range of your meter.base (LoRaWAN® gateway)
- Ensure the location allows for proper antenna positioning
- The antenna should be vertical, free from obstructions and mounted as high as practicable.
- Mount the mote as high as possible without exceeding the maximum sensor cable length of 10 ft
- For in-ground applications, mount the mote on a nearby post or under the lid and use a road marker or Pit Box lid style antenna (must be purchased separately)
- Avoid nearby metal obstructions between the mote and the meter.base.
Connect the Antenna
- Locate the antenna port on the device
- Carefully attach the provided LoRaWAN antenna.
IMPORTANT: The antenna must be connected before activating the device.
Mount the Device
Securely attach mote to a wall, pole, or other structure.
Wire to Pulse Meter
Using the included pigtail, connect your device to the water meter pulse wires
- Strip the wires you will be using so that at least ½” of wire is exposed
- Trim exposed wire off of any unused wires.
IMPORTANT: Exposed wires left untrimmed can trigger undesired pulses and lead to inaccurate readings in the meter.me app!
- Connect up to 3 pulse meters (see diagrams below)
- All connections should be made inside the included terminal box.
- Ensure the terminal box is closed and watertight
Add the Device to the meter.me App
Via mobile app:
Create your mote:
- Navigate to the water system where you want to add this device
- Select the motes tab
- Select the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the screen → Add Mote +
- Scan the QR code on the label with the meter.me logo
- Enter a name for your mote, select “return" on the keyboard in order to…
Save the mote
Create your “water meter” component
- Navigate to the water system where you want to add this device
- Select the components tab
- Select the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the screen → Add Component +
- Select the Water meter component
- Enter a name for your water meter, select “return” on the keyboard in order to…
- Select Next in the upper right
- Enter the current counter reading on the physical meter you have connected
- Select the measurement unit that the physical meter is reading (i.e. Gallons, liters, etc)
- Enter the “tick quantity” based on how many units per pulse on your physical meter (consult manufacturer documentation if needed) → Next
- Drag the map or search for an address to document your meter location → Next
- Select the correct input for your water meter, depending on which positive wire it’s connected to → Next
Via web app:
Create your mote:
- Navigate to the water system where you want to add this device
- Select the “motes” tab
- Select the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the screen → + Add
- Scan the QR code on the label with the meter.me logo
- Enter a name for your mote
- Save and close
Create your “water meter component
- Make sure you are in the water system where you want to add this device
- Select the “components” tab
- Select the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the screen → + Add
- Select the “Water meter” component → Next
- Enter a name for your water meter
- Enter the current counter reading on the physical meter you have connected
- Select the measurement unit that the physical meter is reading (i.e. Gallons, liters, etc)
- Enter the “tick quantity” based on how many units per pulse on your physical meter (consult manufacturer documentation if needed)
- Enter GPS coordinates to locate the meter or “use system location” to copy the coordinates for the system street address → Next
- Select the correct input for your water meter, depending on which positive wire it’s connected to → Save & Close
Activate the Device
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the device, the antenna must be connected before activating the device.
- Press and hold the recessed button (indicated below) on the front of the device for 5 seconds
- The green LED should blink rapidly 5 times while activating, then stay solid for 5 seconds once joined to the network
Verify Operation
Use meter.me App to confirm the device is connected and sending data
- Navigate to the mote view to check online status
- The CPL03 utilizes report on change (activated after 10+ pulses), so to confirm the connections and device are set up correctly, simply flow enough water to trigger 10 pulses in the meter, and check the meter.me app for verification.
Secure and Weatherproof
- Ensure all external connections on mote and terminal box are properly sealed against moisture
- Double-check that the antenna connection is weathertight
- Rubberized tape is recommended to ensure the seal is maintained and the antenna does not accidentally disconnect.
